Venue Spotlight – Port Melbourne Yacht Club

More so now than ever, and in a world that demands the hottest “must have” item the moment it arrives on the scene, the components of a modern wedding are constantly evolving to keep up with current trends. What was once a typical celebration is now anything but. So when on the hunt for a Melbourne wedding venue, many couples are opting for something modern and relaxed and as well as a space that can be easily customised to suit their unique personal styles.

Port Melbourne Yacht Club is ideal for just that type of couple. Located on the shores of Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay, and with a large deck suspended over the shallow waters below, the Yacht Club is ideal for both a casual cocktail party or for a bountiful shared dining experience fit for royalty. With stunning view across the bay and a prime position to enjoy a cocktail with your guests whilst watching the sun set on your big day, it’s no surprise that the Yacht Club is one of our most sought after wedding venues.

The venue itself is light filled with floor to ceiling windows, an entirely customisable floor plan and a neutral palette, meaning that whether you want to simply style the space and use the stunning view as the talking point, or completely style the space to “the nines”, the Yacht Club is able to perfectly adapt to tie in with your needs… Perfect for dancing the night away with a glass of bubbles in hand and enjoying the view.

Mt Duneed Estate – Uyen & Mayur

We all dream of a romantic movie-esque meeting for the love of our lives but not many of us are lucky enough to say that’s how it happened. For Uyen and Mayur, the story was just that, with a romantic meeting in Spain through a mutual friend – definitely a love story worth writing home about.
Since that day halfway around the world, Uyen & Mayur have been madly in love and so excited to start planning the biggest and best party of their lives. When Uyen began her hunt for wedding venues she was looking for a space that not only had a unique appeal but that could easily be tailored to showcase their individual style. In addition to ensuring the couple chose the best wedding catering Geelong has to offer, Mt Duneed Estate was the clear choice.

After a moving wedding ceremony in the Olive Grove the couple and their guests made their way to the Barrel Hall for a wedding reception to remember. On long banquet tables simply styled with bold coloured roses, and under the glimmering strings of festoon lights, guests enjoyed gorgeous food and fantastic company. With live music, plenty of laughter and surrounded by all the love any one human could imagine, the newlyweds and their guests danced the night away in the rustic Barrel Hall.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your big day, and congratulations!

Melbourne Museum – Kathryn & Nick

It’s the simple pleasures in life that make everything worth while, and it’s the simple pleasures that Kathryn and Nick wanted to focus on for their big day. The bridal party took a casual stroll from the couples home through the Carlton Gardens and up to the Melbourne Museum, one of the most unique Melbourne wedding venues.

The couple shared an intimate ceremony in the Mind and Body gallery of Melbourne Museum, situated in front of a stunning pyramid of elegant white flowers and said their “I do’s” to the tune of an acoustic guitar. The guests then enjoyed canapés and a glass of sparkling whilst mingling and wandering through the fascinating exhibits in the gallery space.

The reception itself was everything Kathryn and Nick had hoped for. The entire evening was filled with laughter, dancing, fabulous food and of course plenty of love. “We wanted a relaxed atmosphere to celebrate with everyone and we were so happy with the outcome”, Kathryn said.

As the DJ played into the night the newly-weds shared their first dance under the spectacular Te Pasifika exhibit of traditional canoes hung high from the gallery’s ceiling. What a wonderful night and thank you for letting us be a part of it.

Choosing a Wedding Venue

It’s not always easy to know where to begin when planning a wedding. You’ve said “yes”, but what comes next?

The first step is to do your research and find an underlying style you like. One of the most popular styles appearing at the moment is large relaxed parties, rather than the formal affairs of days gone by. Find a style that suits you as a couple, whether that be a relaxed cocktail party under the stars or an opulent affair in a grand ballroom. The next step is to gain an idea of your approximate guest numbers as this will immediately help refine your venue search.

Finding the right venue will depend on a combination of factors including location, venue size, layout and of course your preferred style of wedding catering. Food is such an integral part of an incredible wedding and is often one of the major take away memories for your guests. Why not ensure your guests are thoroughly delighted by including themed food stations, a shared menu or a lavish dessert buffet.

Once you have put a short list of venues together, it is best to visit each and meet with the dedicated Event Planner to discuss in detail your vision for your big day. It is important to not only make sure you love the venue, but also that you feel comfortable with the Event Planner as he or she will soon become your “go to” person.

Peter Rowland Catering are synonymous with excellence and have some of the most renowned Melbourne wedding venues to suit anything from intimate receptions of 30 guests to extravagant banquets of up to 650 guests. We also have a specialised team of hospitality professionals that can bring your wedding to life in any location you desire working in a number of Melbourne’s most unique venues.

On the surface, choosing a wedding venue may seem daunting but as long as you have a clear vision for your day and a great team to work with, it becomes significantly easier. The rest as they say, will fall right into place.

PRC Style – Maid to Measure

This season’s bridal wear is moving away from the traditional floor length embellished gowns towards bold colours and even bolder details. Traditional silhouettes in untraditional fabrics are hugely popular along with cheeky cut-outs, lending to an interesting year ahead in bridal fashion.

Floor Length and Fabulous

A traditional style for the bridal party; long, flowing, elegant gowns have always been a popular choice as they flatter so many different shapes. It’s all about simplifying these gowns whilst keeping a stunning silhouette, think less details and basic colours.

The Blushing Bridesmaid

Keeping a neutral colour palatte for your bridesmaids will give them an effortless and glamorous look
and choosing simple styles created with interesting fabrics will help to keep the look fresh.

All White, Everything

There isn’t much that encapsulates chic quite like an all-white bridal party. This look works best when the dresses are also mismatched and every bridesmaid has her own individual style, a sure way to create an incredible look in your bridal photos.

Ladies in Red

A classic colour for evening wear which is starting to make it’s way into bridal fashion is vibrant red. Bold coloured dresses with simple silhouettes are a perfect match for a sleek modern up-do and a simple nude make-up palatte.

Edgy Details

A lot of unconventional styles are making appearances and we are loving it! Black is a statement that continues to prevail along with these incredible new takes on traditional lace. The looks are far edgier than we’re sure most of us are used to seeing but the combination of gorgeous fabrics and unique details are definitely a winner.

Wedding of the Month – Rippon Lea – Naomi & Krishna

There are so many different types of love; First love, that is so marvellous it’s all you can think
about, the best friend kind of love, filled with laughter and playful shenanigans, and of course deep enduring love, the love that your Grandfather brings home along with a bunch of flowers for your dear Grandmother. Naomi and Krishna seem to have found the perfect balance between all three, so full of love and wonderment that it is hard not to adore them.

The couple met on RSVP and it was love at first quirky ‘screen name’. Three years on that hasn’t changed a bit. Plenty of smiles and even more laughter set the tone for their big day, and as Naomi was walked down the aisle by her Mum, it was clear to everyone that Krishna was the happiest man alive. At the end of the aisle, the couple they shared an endearing fist bump and laughed their way through their vows.

After many a beverage and several games of coights, bocce and croquet (with an impromptu lightsaber fight thrown in for good measure) in the late Summer sun, guests made their way into the stunningly decorated Grand Ballroom of Rippon Lea. When on the hunt for Melbourne wedding venues Naomi wanted a space that had plenty of old world charm and vintage glamour to compliment the style she had in mind. Rippon Lea was a perfect fit.

As the night progressed guests were treated to many heart-stirring moments. Naomi surprised her new husband by having a song she had written for him performed and Krishna surprised her right back by serenading her with “I can’t take my eyes off you”. The couple then dazzled their guests with a choreographed mashup of songs including the Hokey Pokey, You Can’t Touch This and Jai Ho. To top off the incredible evening the bride and groom shared a heart warming toast with their guests using champagne plucked straight from the opulent tower Naomi made as a visual feature.

There could not have been a more fitting celebration for such a fun loving and passionate couple, and we thank them for letting us share it.

Mt Duneed Estate – Gabby & Matt

When Gabby headed to the local cricket club for a drink with a friend, she never expected she would be meeting the man of her dreams. It has been 6 years since that decisive encounter and Gabby is still as sure as the day they first met, they are perfect for each other.

Matt and Gabby knew exactly the type of wedding they wanted. It had to be as laid back and as fun as themselves and when looking for a venue and wedding catering, it had to be simple yet unique.

Nestled amongst the olive groves at Mt Duneed Estate, Matt stood surrounded by his closest friends and family and awaited the arrival of his gorgeous bride. The look on his face when Gabby first appeared could be described as nothing less than pure elation, the kind of look you wish you could bottle. The couple, beaming and laughing, exchanged vows and shared a kiss, to the cheering of their overjoyed guests, before disappearing into the vineyard for photographs.

The reception was held in the Barrel Hall and was simply styled in all white with single stem white roses dotted along the length of the banquet tables. Under the warm glow of the festoon lighting the guests dined, laughed and chatted merrily whilst awaiting the opening of the bespoke whiskey bar.

All in all the night was exactly what this relaxed and loved-up couple had hoped for; a huge party with plenty of laughter. Congratulations on your big day and thank you for letting us be such a big part of the first day of the rest of your lives!
